Lessons From The Turtle

Description

We are born of no doing of our own
Cast into this world of turmoil and pain
Occasionally experiencing a smile or embrace
Real treasure.

Some of us are taken to places
Where we “do not belong”
Without a voice, despised
Seeking treasure is not an option
We are told

Treasure wields no owner
Has no tangibility

Abstracted  in the heart
It is impermeable, irrefutable,
Irreducible, irreconcilable
Indestructible

I have been studying nature through the lens now for some nine years.
It is fascinating to witness the proliferation of some species that were brought to this continent, only to proliferate themselves into extermination by those who they harm. Being non-indigenous, they are marked for the killing. Hated and despised by the creatures that brought them here.
The parallels to human behavior are revealing

The above loose poetry contrasts the word treasure and its many meanings. Some levels of which can vary according to chance, and some of which we all have access to simply by being human.
