Tension

It has happened only a few times this season.
The clouds rolled in.
The sun went to sleep.
And a looming uneasiness blanketed the lake.
There across the lake at 300 yards.
A great egret.
The wind drifted through the barren trees.
Quickly, I stacked five exposures to build the essence of the moment.
Then waited for the creature to fly.
The bird wanted to alight
But the wind was cold
And he was comfortable
He stepped left, then right…he must be ready
Then, a noise behind me
Footsteps
I turned and greeted another photographer
I turned? Why did I turn?
Swinging back around
He was in the air
Quick, focus you fool, FOCUS!
Focus or not, you must pull the trigger
NOW!
Fitting I think.
I love that uneasiness.
The tension of creatures and the elements
And the feeling
