I know, ducks, big deal.
Perhaps.
The nightly rhythm at the lake dictates that the ducks are the last to fly in for the night to roost. That is, there are birds species that fly in at the same time like clockwork...almost. Of course there are the rebels, like herons, egrets, cormorants. Those birdies fly whenever and wherever, based on food sources.
This evening found me waiting. I had four layers in a multiple exposure setting in my camera. All I needed was the last shot to finish it, and it was the ducks turn to make an appearance.
There are only a few places where I can make the silhouette work. There is very little light. So I positioned myself in the most likely spot. Then, I waited. One minute turned to two, three, five, seven. I lost faith. When I lose faith I start to count..."ok, I will count 60 seconds and if they do not show, I will finish the piece with something else and go home." I counted to sixty, four or five times....then at about about "ten" during my last count, it happened.
The window of opportunity occurred between trees so timing is everything. Shoot the birds in front of a tree and the composition is ruined. I had already ruined several this evening.
But, not this time. They came in, between the trees toward me, and not across, which gave me time to manually focus. I fired the shutter, and quickly looked into the monitor. Yes!
By this time, the light was all but gone, it was very cool and I was very tired from a long day at the office. This one, made it worth the wait.

Markus I wish more artists on DA were like you in telling us something about the work being shown. I get so frustrated when I see just an image and absolutly no information about it... what's the point?
I enjoyed reading your narrative which made me feel like I was there during the process of taking the picture. Well done and nice gallery. I bought a new camera this week Nicon L840 so I can take decent pics of my work, my phone was not good enough.
I like the blurred effect in your shots, the feeling of activity.
